Some footage has finally emerged for the Star Trek tie in game for the hit 2009 movie. It’s a little late, but it has been in development since 2011 and comes packing official voices from the main actors from the movie.
Here it is before we discuss it, lest you not wish spoilers of the trailer to be forthcoming:
When released it’ll be available on Xbox, PC and PS3 and will feature COOP gameplay, described by the developers as Bro-Op. It won’t allow for single player switching between roles, but will see two cooperative players control Spock and Kirk independently. The two characters will have varied move sets and abilities, with Kirk being the better shooter of the pair, while Spock will be able to employ stealth techniques and the classic nerve pinch.
The graphics are nothing stellar and we’ve certainly seen better for an end of console life cycle and really, this looks more like a mod for Mass Effect than anything else, but it still looks well done. The characters look like who they’re supposed to be and there’s a lot of gameplay elements being melded together: from ship combat, to sky/space diving, shooting, hand to hand combat and Kirk quips.
Of course often when too much is stuffed into a game, the overall experience suffers from a lack of focus, but I’ll remain positive for now. This looks like a solid effort and I look forward to checking it out.
Set for release on 23rd April, Star Trek is being developed by Digital Extremes, the guys who co-op developed Bioshock 1/2, Unreal Tournament 2004 and Homefront.
KitGuru Says: So what’s the verdict guys? Spocktacular or James T Awful? Oh the puns are excellent, I know. I meant the game
