A short film inspired by the first-person puzzle game Portal called Portal: No Escape, directed by Dan Rachtenberg has been released on YouTube.
The seven minute short stars Danielle Rayne as Chell, waking up in a large, bare cell. An unknown amount of time goes by as she searches desperately for an escape, does countless press ups and eats unappetising looking food that is shoved under the door. Then one day she discovers the Portal gun hidden in the wall, and blasts her way out of the cell. She makes her way to freedom, chased by guards… only to find herself in a test chamber.
Danielle has had roles in many movies and TV shows, including The Open Door, Law & Order and All My Children. According to IMDB, Danielle holds a machine gun permit in the state of California, so I wouldn’t mess with her!
Dan lives in Los Angeles and is one of the hosts of vidcast The Totally Rad Show and has also made commercials for Nike, Coca Cola and Lexus Bridge. The short film is scored by Mike Zarin, who composed the first Inception trailer and is edited by Dan’s brother David Trachtenberg. The visual effects supervisor Jon Chesson has worked on sci-fi shows including V, True Blood and Falling Skies.
The film was first shown at this year’s Comic Con in San Diego, and now for anyone who missed it the first time round (or who wants to see it again) has been posted on the web. Dan said on his Twitter feed that the film had taken one and a half years to make and he looked forward to hearing what everyone thought of it. He also mentioned that the film had been shot before Portal 2 came out.
