PopCap Games, the developer behind such hit casual titles as Bejeweled, Peggle and Plants vs Zombies,is now recruiting a software engineer to help work on a new AAA console title that makes use of the Frostbite 2 engine – the same one seen in games like Battlefield 3.
This would mark the first time that PopCap has stepped into the AAA arena, though with publisher EA Games backing it, it certainly has a good platform from which to springboard off of.
The advert for the new position at PopCap is looking for someone that has a lot of experience in all fields of game development, including animation, audio, resource management, visual effects and more – so perhaps PoPCap is looking for someone to run the development. Candidates will also need a degree in computer science, a lot of experience with programming language C++, a good know how of client/server architecture and the ability to work with designers and artists.
PS3 and Xbox 360 experience is recommended, suggesting this is a current gen development and not something we’ll see towards the end of next year when the true next-gen machines are hinted at for release. Despite all these requirements however, the ad still suggests that the game will be built with PopCap’s “signature humour and charm.”
It’s been said in the past that PopCap was working on a Plants vs Zombies 2. Taking it AAA would certainly be a big change for a sequel to the original cartoony, tower defence title.
KitGuru Says: What do you guys think PopCap might be working on? Frostbite 2 is a very pretty game engine and would mean visuals quite removed from PopCap’s usual style.
