Ubisoft has confirmed that a bug in the recently released Hidden Secret’s DLC for Assassin’s Creed III has been wiping progress in main and side quests, resetting hours of gameplay.
“We’re able to reproduce this issue at the studio and are working on a fix/workaround,” a Ubisoft dev said on the official forum, where several people have complained of major game progress being lost. The original poster in the linked thread said that for him, side missions had jumped to 100 per cent completion, while main story missions had dropped to 0 per cent. His money total had also been reduced to zero.
However there is some advice available for those wanting to avoid this bug. Ubisoft stated (via Eurogamer): “Do not load your saved AC3 game while the DLC is downloading in the background. This appears to be the key trigger for this bug. You can do anything else you want to do, just don’t load up your saved game and play it while the DLC is downloading.”
For now this is the best bet for those wanting to avoid it. Though perhaps if you want to be completely sure, leave ACIII alone for a couple of days and wait for an official patch to fix this one up – especially if you’ve already logged a lot of hours with the game.
