The man behind DayZ’s original mod and the currently in-development standalone version of the zombie survival title, has reached out to the community to let them know how he’s doing. And unfortunately, it’s not great.
In-fact it’s made him question his whole career decision to get into game development in the first place. Responding to a Reddit post that simply asked him to take plenty of time with the upcoming DayZ game, he posted the following:
“I know I have been very quiet lately. So this will be really all I’ll say for the moment. I’ve been pretty depressed about the whole situation. From a personal standpoint, this whole “saga” of the development made me seriously question if I wanted to be involved in the industry and I gave serious thought to cutting my losses and not being involved in the project.”
He then noted that during his discharge medical examination from the army, he was noted as having high blood pressure – something he claims has been brought about by developing DayZ and the furore surrounding the very, very similar looking WarZ.
“I’ve been getting hammered by a massive amount with requests for information about DayZ release, interviews and my reactions to this and stuff and such – but for my own sanity I retreated and have kept to myself. Right now I’m just at home doing bits and pieces on the DayZ development. The rest of the DayZ team is doing the same.”
The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, with most people reiterating that they don’t want him or the DayZ team to rush the development of the game. Many also wished him well and hoped he got better soon.
The “saga” he referenced to in his post related to the recent problems with the release of rival zombie survival game, WarZ, which seemingly mislead consumers with inaccurate descriptions of what the game offered.
KitGuru Says: Shame to see Dean Hall suffering because of the actions of others. Still, undue attention is one of the downsides of celebrity game development, so perhaps after DayZ is done he’ll have to consider whether that’s something he wants to deal with in the future.
